I have no fear...but I do feel afraid!
My last morning in Dubai was spent at Wild Wadi (the water-park on Jumeirah Beach). I was last there 8 years ago when the main ride - the Jumeirah Sceirah was a long open-air slide ... that was frightening. It has now been updated and upscared ...
Here's the official description:
"With two tandem slides, guests first climb up the 32 metres tower and enjoy a spectacular view of the entire waterpark.
Once on top of the tower, two capsules await for two guests to ride on at the same time. Just like the old Jumeirah Sceirah, guests must cross their arms & legs as the doors of the capsules close, unaware of what awaits them.
A feeling of anxiety and anticipation rushes through them as the countdown begins.
Before they know it, the floor beneath them opens and both guests slides down the 120 metres slide at an astonishing speed of 80 km/h!
In few seconds, guests reach the bottom of the slide with a rush of excitement!"
THE REALITY:
You climb the steps ... the higher you go, the feeling of bleugh starts.
You reach the top and there's a vertical coffin you stand in ...
You get in the coffin and it's locked ...
Then you hear a voice ... "3, 2, 1"
Then the floor drops from beneath you and you FALL
You slide for 8 seconds ... you heart & mind is at the top of the slide ... your body is just falling ... and falling ...
You land ... and then are forced to repeat TWICE more ... for different camera angles while the cameraman and assistant smirk at your discomfort ... the feeling doesn't get better ...
NEVER AGAIN! Talk about going out with a BANG!
