Day 6 - Margaret River, Western Australia
At home, driving in the dark can be a traumatic affair. But thankfully most of the locals (pheasants, rabbits, badgers and foxes) are small enough to get squashed under-tyre and not cause much physical damage (I once did squish a rabbit and felt utter guilt for weeks - mental damage) ... well tonight, driving back from dinner, I nearly (and I mean by a whisker) smashed into a large kangaroo crossing the road! Thankfully, I was driving slowly and carefully ... it so could have ended in tears ... phew!
So - today has been busy ... an interview with the very affable, cool & suave General Manager of Cape Lodge - Drew Bernhardt - was followed by a visit to Vasse Felix - the oldest winery in MR ... an evening "kangaroo" safari ... and finally dinner at the lovely Wino's in the "town" of Margaret River.
So tired ...
The Grey Australian Kangaroo (as opposed to "Red")

With the fabulous "chief winemaker" of Vasse Felix - Virginia Willcock - vines were first planted in MR in 1967 at Vasse ... with the first wine produced in 1972 ... since then over 150 wineries have sprouted up in the region ... Vasse is still counted as one of the best ...
Neil McLeod owns a 1960's Bedford truck that now takes visitors on kangaroo watching trips. His family have been here for over 100 years ...
Tim and I do work together sometimes ...
Neil has some stunning horses ... I got to feed them!
